Listen to this and be warned – the first bars are misleading. It starts off like a twangy piece of country – then you hear that voice and something lifts in your soul. The soft guitar fuzz creeps in and you start to realize you are hearing something special. Then the chorus breaks over you like an avalanche and you don’t know where it came from or which way is up. Sizzling cold fury breaks along your breadth and you don’t know how to think anymore!
Stumbled across this early today. Well stumbled is a a bit egregious. Link came my way via the Mojo Magazine newsletter. Can’t wait till the first issues get here!
This is a concert I would love to have been at. I can just feel myself banging along and drinking lots of beer. Foot tapping and head thrashing along with a gaggle of beats. That Gemma Thompsan guitar sound destroys everything that dares stand in the way, while the rhythm section of Ayse Hassan (Bass) & Fay Milton (Drums) pounds along with a steadiness that allows for wandering fingers. Then there’s the break and a little shriek and Jehnny Beth reminds you of where this force is coming from.
Info via their website, twitter & facebook reveals a hero in common is Ray Bradbury, which puts me more in love with the Savages!
Another great dark beautiful pulsing track from Creature With the Atom Brain.
Give this a listen as you are ready to go out the door and thump! This is the rock that I’m very happy to be finding these days. Pretty epic stuff!
Dark vocals with a sound of someone dragging a rusted sledge across a desert of asphalt. Who knows why they are doing it, but you know they will succeed!
If you like your rock hard, dirty, bluesy and mean then this is an album for you. Mark Lanegan’s vocals crushes you under its weight; it makes you want to drink and grimace and nod your head to its driving force. You can’t sit still, you can’t listen at low volume. Bring it on!The single is a great taste of the album, give it a listen!
